Tourist attractions and cultural events play a major role in the vibrant metropolis of Cologne and the city on the Rhine has plenty to offer in this regard. Everybody is probably familiar with Cologne Cathedral, which is always worth a visit, but the city also offers many other attractive highlights to culture-focused travellers and Cologne residents alike. These range from the city’s museums and Romanesque churches to a wide spectrum of fountains and monuments. You can walk through the quaint alleys of Cologne’s city centre, where you will find traditional buildings and innumerable breweries.

On the Brewery Pub Path 

During this entertaining walk through Cologne’s old town, you’ll get to know the many facets of Kölsch. You’ll find out what you have always wanted to know about the top-fermented specialty beer and delicacies such as Himmel un Ääd or Kölscher Kaviar. Many enjoy the much-heralded amber nectar fresh from the tap as a quick beer at the bar. This is the best way to experience Cologne’s hospitality and lively brewery-pub culture at close range.

Eau de Cologne – Historical Fragrance Tour 

The success story of Eau de Cologne began 300 years ago in Cologne. In 1709, Johann Maria Farina invented the most famous water in the world and this classy perfume is still made today by the same family in the same house. Experience the Fragrance Museum within a private historical guided tour while an actor in a rococo period costume plays the role of the inventor of the famous Eau de Cologne.

Visit of Cathedral‘s Roof 

Viewable from nearly every point in the city centre, the magnificent Cologne Cathedral hovers above the roofs and chimneys of the city. With more than six million visitors a year, the Cathedral is the most popular tourist destination in Germany. During the roof tour, let yourself be surprised by an iron construction that is older than the Eiffel Tower. Explore tower rooms above the city with depots and workshops of the Dombauhütte. And let yourself be overwhelmed by one of the most spectacular views that Cologne has to offer.

Tour of Old Town with Cologne Cathedral 

The Rhine panorama of the Old Town with the Cathedral, the Roman church Groß St. Martin (Great St. Martin) and the historical Town Hall has become quite popular around the world over the years. A stroll through the narrow, cobble-stoned alleys will take the guests back to times long ago. The tour ends with a visit of Cologne’s most predominant landmark: the Cathedral!

Visit of Chocolate Museum  

Like a ship made of glass and metal, the chocolate museum is located in the Rheinau harbour, directly in front of the old town, near the Maritim Hotel. The tour of the nine exhibition areas is a fantastic and unforgettable journey through 4000 square metres of the culture and history of chocolate, starting with old American cultures such as the Maya and the Aztecs, through the Baroque age and the industrialization up to the individual refinement of the noble chocolate of today. A little chocolate tasting isof course, included.

Special: 4711 Fragrance Tour & Workshop 

Just a short walk from Cologne Cathedral stands the 4711 House of Fragrances, the place where unique and world-famous colognes have been created since 1792. In this flagship store, you can explore the richly-faceted variety of the brand and experience the history of the House of Fragrances and its iconic original Eau de Cologne. After a short tour, you can even blend your own personal eau de cologne under the instruction of experts and learn about the perfumer’s art.

EVENING AT MUSEUM LUDWIG

On behalf of a local partner, we are pleased to invite all HTAi participants and their accompanying persons to an evening at Museum Ludwig, one of the most celebrated museums for art of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries worldwide. Doors open at 18:00 and you can walk through the museum, free of charge, until 22:00. Please bring your name badge with you in order to gain entrance. Please register your attendance in advance by booking the tour here.
